New York Angels and Former Google Employees Buy Into "Time-to View" Strategy

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 9, 2010 — SetJam, the online-TV search engine, today announced it has closed on a $275,000 bridge investment from the New York Angels and The Hudson River Angels, a recently-formed investment group composed of former New York Google employees. Setjam will use the funds to accelerate its growth as it prepares for a venture investment. "There are times to validate a market, and there are times to own a market. We and our investors believe that online-TV has clearly moved into that second phase," said SetJam CEO, Ryan Janssen.

SetJam intends to use the funds to continue work on its key "Time-To-View" metric, which measures how quickly they get people to their shows. "We have been and will continue to be laser-focused on our 'Time-To-View' metric; that is, how long it takes for people to actually start watching the shows they want to see. Our competitors believe people want a TV portal. We believe people want to get to their content as quickly as possible," said Janssen.

Commenting on the speed of the round, David S. Rose, Chairman of the New York Angels, said, "It's the fastest round we've done in the history of our group. We were over-subscribed within 24 hours, then we had to increase the round to make room for the former Google folks and several other outside investors. We had to cap the note to protect our investment."

When asked what size venture round SetJam would have to raise in order to compete with Clicker, a Los Angeles startup that recently raised an additional $11 million, Janssen said, "Clicker has stated their strategy plainly: They are going to spend $20 million to buy a brand. Let me also speak plainly: We are going to spend a fraction of that making online-TV easy. We'll see where cheap flight Adelaide to Mildura both companies stand two years from now."

Kinsey - Angela Martin on the mockumentary series - said that the plot was important to help evolve the characters.”I think what’s the great thing about our show is that they find ways to make our characters grow without really changing a character’s arc,” she told reporters during a conference call.”If you change a character too much the audience falls out of love with the character, but characters need to evolve and grow over the years. Orlando Ballet made a bold overture to Central Florida’s growing Hispanic community Friday with a one-night, Latin-flavored program, Bailamos!(Let’s Dance) at the Orange County Convention Center’s Linda Chapin Auditorium.  But what appeared to be a fine evening for audience expansion, with lots of filled seats and an appreciative audience, fell short of a banner night for ballet.

Some of that shortcoming may be due to the broad hall and stage, which seemed to dwarf the dancers, and the lack of rake to the seats, which obscures their feet and legs. Making the space friendlier, artistic director Robert Hill and Jessica Reyes of Univision 26 TV provided comments between dances with just the right conversational tone and brevity.

There were certainly bright spots – among them the return of Orlando Ballet favorite Israel Rodriguez after a three-year absence and the spirited performance of artistic Hill’s happy-go-lucky Huapango. But the program had too many tepid performances and a couple of dances that looked as if they had been trotted out just for the occasion – and might just as well be returned to the stable.

Opening the show unluckily was Fernando Bujones’ Bolero. One of the best pieces the late dancer/director created for Orlando Ballet, it holds a special place in the repertory.  Friday it looked like it needed a transfusion.

At its best, Bolero crackles with tension as the women, then the men, then men and women together, in opposition – move through tightly constructed patterns, stepping on nearly every beat of the pulsing Ravel music.  Hot, Latin energy is carefully contained, like cheap domestic flights from Newcastle to Bundaberg a spring wound tighter until it pops.

In some, the paintings that decorated their walls still survive, despite the attempts of Muslims to wreck and ravage them for their too evident human imagery; their ghosts find definition in more resistant sculptural reliefs and, on a smaller scale, in manuscripts and miniatures.

Absorbed into the Ottoman Empire by the westward march of the Turks, Armenia lost her borders and her nationality, but the heritage of a great culture, laid down more than a thousand years before, established patterns that were still current late in the 19th century. It was to these that any boy with burgeoning talent as an artist was compelled to turn for his education — for there were no art schools — to the painted images and gingerbread sculpture of the churches that were so much part of his daily life. Now perceived to be the last Surrealist and the first American Abstract Expressionist, Gorky was born in Armenia in 1904, we think, in a village near the city of Van.
